Washburn Studios is a place to develop as an artist or a visual arts educator. It is an opportunity for immersion in an art-making practice in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Center yourself, relax, create, make new friends, try new materials and techniques in printmaking, painting and sculpture. Refine your skills in a community of artists. Breakfast and a catered lunch will let you stay focused on your work. Walk into town to enjoy the local cafés, galleries, restaurants and nightlife. Only two hours from Manhattan and 45 minutes from Albany, even a long weekend can offer new inspiration.

Professional development for building new visual arts curriculum for K-12 students. Guided classes and take-away lesson plans incorporate new techniques, while contemporary curricular trends inspire students with identity-based, science, SEL and environmental “artivism” motivations.

Areas of Practice
Artist Workshops: Printmaking, Painting & Sculpture
Our faculty are exhibiting and teaching artists who offer demonstrations on their artistic process, as well as providing examples from art history and contemporary works. Materials and technique exploration are offered with guided critiques for development of one’s personal art-making practice. Extra days of independent study available.
Art Education & Curriculum Development
An enriched environment for visual arts educators to develop curriculum that incorporates (1) Skill building through materials and exploration of techniques (2) Social/Emotional Learning (3) Identity Exploration and (4) Social /Environmental Justice. Participating educators receive takeaway lesson plans for empowering students to have a voice in their art-making.
Artist Residency Programs
Clear your mind and develop your practice. Three-day minimum stays for up to one week including a private bedroom and private or shared studio space in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Catered meals available upon request.

Village of Saugerties
Historic Saugerties Village is home to a large community of artists and craftspeople. The beauty of the landscape, lively town center with restaurants, bars, bookstores, art galleries, cafes, nature trails, and famous lighthouse are all in walking distance. Located on a private, half-wooded acre, accommodations include a private bedroom in a brick Victorian house with studio space in a newly renovated outbuilding. The home is large and comfortable with dining and living spaces to read and relax.
