Washburn Studios is a place to develop as an artist or a visual arts educator. It is an opportunity for immersion in an art-making practice in the beautiful Hudson Valley or the stunning seaside town of Tropea, Italy. Center yourself, relax, create, make new friends, try new materials and techniques in plein-air painting, printmaking, painting, design, and sculpture. Refine your skills in a community of artists. Walk into town to enjoy the local cafés, galleries, restaurants and nightlife at both locations.

Artist Workshops: Printmaking, Painting & Sculpture

Our faculty are exhibiting and teaching artists who offer demonstrations on their artistic process, as well as providing examples from art history and contemporary works. Materials and technique exploration are offered with guided critiques for development of one’s personal art-making practice. Extra days of independent study available.

Teen week-long Art Lessons & Art Education

An enriched environment for middle and high school students to have an intensive visual arts and design week.

Village of Saugerties

Historic Saugerties Village is home to a large community of artists and craftspeople. The beauty of the landscape, lively town center with restaurants, bars, bookstores, art galleries, cafes, nature trails, and famous lighthouse are all in walking distance. Located on a private, half-wooded acre, accommodations include a private bedroom in a brick Victorian house with studio space in a newly renovated outbuilding. The home is large and comfortable with dining and living spaces to read and relax.

Town of Tropea

The ancient town of Tropea in Calabria, Italy is home to one of the most magnificent coastlines on the Tyrrhenian Sea, and in the world. The beauty of the landscape, lively town center with restaurants, gelato shops, art galleries, cafes, nature trails, and the famous Maria dell’Isola church overlooking famous Rotunda Beach are all in walking distance of the crystal clear sea and our chosen accommodations.
