Color Movement Theory
September 22, 2025 — October 22, 2025
5 × 2.5hr online classes each Wednesday, time to be confirmed (September 22, October 1, 8, 15, 22)
Connect with color in a new way by speaking its language. Colors speak through movement in relation to each other. We can learn to listen to and feel what they are saying, and understand how those movements create harmony and tension, and pictorial space. Color Movement Theory describes these movements in a clear and succinct way, which opens up a myriad of creative possibilities for exploration in our own work.
In this course we will learn how to use these color movements to create our own artwork. In addition to looking at masterworks which employ these methods, we will also develop our own personal connection with color and our own language of expression through color. We will explore both Color Movement Theory as well as topics from conventional color theory. We will discuss use of color by a variety of artists, and expand our own use of color through experimentation and discussion.
This will be an online course. Class will include both presentations, as well as hands on work and discussion. Students will be expected to work outside of class time as well. Included with the class fee is a digital copy of the eBook: Color Movement Theory by Robert Najlis.
