Led by Tina Marie Piccolo, MA Art Education, Brooklyn College
Former VA Faculty, Brooklyn Friends School

This workshop will first be inspired by the works of three female artists: The visionary art of Swedish artist, Hilma af Klint, French painter, Sonia Delauney’s geometric, painted compositions, and Surrealist, Mexican painter, Remedios Varo. Participants will create an abstract charcoal drawing by developing three different concept sketches designed to be either strongly dynamic compositions, built upon an understructure of diagonals or visually stable compositions, built around vertical and horizontal axes. Geometric forms and radiating lines will be arranged including several principles from the Elements of Design such as: overlapping, repetition, and symmetry. The final designs, erased from drawing paper prepared with charcoal dust will suggest distant horizons, and fantastical visions. Materials and lunch provided. Take away lesson plans available for art educators.
